Combating HIV-AIDS – many ways, a goal

Amid the pessimism stems from the recent bankruptcy of nearly 150 clinical trials for prevention not protect subjects against HIV infection, there is a strong commitment to continue research in the development of a vaccine, and the battle through all the challenges of the process.

With a pessimistic note, the hope of a vaccine in the short term is not anywhere in sight as the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS) has expressed. Although not in the short term, the Scripps Research Institute was optimistic about the possibility of a vaccine in 10 years. Until then, access to HIV drugs need to reach each and every one.

Apparently, HIV / AIDS is a big monster with multiple heads. While efforts to reduce further, the research reveals latest trends in risk among people, and unravel the results seem quite surprising.

Trends in risk

Consider the case of India where and estimated that 2 to 3. 1 million people infected with HIV reside. The researchers reported that young workers in call centers are becoming a breeding ground for infections unprotected sex with multiple partners among employees. About 1.3 million people graduate in India, many of whom choose to work in call centers because of good starting salaries of U.S. $ 600 (from India rules).

But if you thought that India was alone, leading the trend, the trend observed in the United Kingdom, where approximately 33% of men with men and their sexual partners, and are aware of their HIV status, have a unprotected sexual behavior and risk. The study was published by the Medical Research Council.

Research

The research, while revealing the mysteries, sometimes at the expense of movement that is outside the comfort zone. For example, the report of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Announcements growing HIV / AIDS infection rates among intravenous drug users, sex workers and gay men. Or that, as a study published in the Journal of Sexually Transmitted Diseases shows that many people think their partners are not infected, even without proof of STD / HIV.

However, not all is bleak on the situation of HIV / AIDS, a lot of efforts to combat it are underway.

A workplace program Shining

Realizing the gravity, the business sector in Mozambique has stepped forward to take the bull by the horns. Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique (CTA) has introduced a program called echoes that are supposed to deal with the disease in the workplace. The Agency’s goal is to test workers find their HIV status. Perhaps there are lessons in the initiative, the Indian industry call center to learn.

Education

In Florida, the National Day of HIV testing approaches Friday, June 27, health agencies and nonprofit groups would host several educational events to inform and actively involve communities of Southwest Florida minority. Minorities have higher than average infection rates.

Policy

Recently, teens from upstate New York made an appeal to political leaders asking them to enact a Healthy Teens Act to provide funds for comprehensive sex education in schools. Similarly, in the National AIDS Control in India has approved the country’s National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) to care centers for children with HIV.

Although it is encouraging that the efforts on many fronts, however, much remains to be done. While government policies have time to take effect, education and initiatives to improve the scope of existing HIV drugs may be achieved much faster.
